Your pet’s oral health is unlikely to be the first thing you take into consideration when you bring them home. Nevertheless, dental care is just as important for animals as it is for humans. Your pet needs their teeth to bite and chew their food, but also to pick up and carry objects, to play games such as catching a ball, and in some instances, they may rely on their teeth as a form of defense. If they are compromised in any way, not only can it lead to painful and debilitating symptoms for your pet, but it could also leave them feeling vulnerable. Some studies have also shown a link between poor pet oral health and the development of diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. So as you can see, there are lots of reasons why you should be taking proper care of your pet’s teeth.

As responsible and committed pet owners, we want to do everything in our power to ensure that our companion animals live long, healthy and happy lives. Unfortunately, there is a multitude of potential dangers,  including illness and disease, that can prevent this from becoming a reality. There are just as many diseases that affect animals as there are for humans, some of which have permanent and even deadly consequences. Fortunately, like us, our pets can benefit from a form of preventative medicine known as immunizations.
